DEVELOPMENT

Students at St. John's Preschool will participate in scheduled academic and learning experiences. Each day they will participate in experiences which integrate: religion and prayertime, listening skills, color, vocabulary, large and small motor skills, language development, creativity and imagination, dramatic play, music, art, fingerplays, numbers, self-concept and social activities.

SCHEDULE

Time frames vary for each class, but in a given preschool day the preschoolers have:

  • Free play
  • Circle time (songs, poems, helpers, & stories)
  • Religion Stories
  • Gym (large motor control)
  • Snack time
  • Small group (small motor control, projects, cognitive development, arts & crafts)
  • Closing

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES

On the first day of school, preschoolers need to bring:

  • Colored Pencils
  • Box of 24 crayons
  • Large "Uhu" glue stick
  • Paper towels
  • Paper plates (large or small)
  • Wet wipes
  • Napkins
  • Paper cups
  • Plastic silverware
  • Ziploc baggies (large or small)
  • Book bag

EVENTS

Some of the special events and field trips the preschoolers go on are:

  • October--Pumpkin patch, Halloween parties, Fire Prevention, Open House
  • November--Thanksgiving Feast
  • December--Christmas parties, Advent service (sing), Jesus' Birthday party, God's Gift Shop
  • January--Building an igloo, Stone soup, Developmental Screening, Handwashing demonstration, Steve Vasek (speak on animal life around the Mississippi)
  • February--Vision/Hearing Screening, Valentine's parties
  • March--Maple sugar tapping trip at Black Hawk State Park
  • April--Hospital field trip, Arbor day
  • May--Family Fun Night, Bike safety, Graduation
